It seems that robbers just don’t pay attention to what their victims want.
For the fourth time in the few weeks since Jack in the Box restaurant chain officials asked that their customers disarm themselves before coming, there’s been a report of a robbery at one of the stores.
An armed robbery.
The Guns Saves Lives report noticed the latest incident, Monday in Liberty, Texas.
Only a few weeks earlier, a Jack in the Box in northwest Houston was hit. The second in the series also was in Houston, but the first one after company officials announced their changed policy, not even a month ago, was in Tennessee, where a man was shot in the restaurant’s parking lot.
According to the Cleveland Advocate, Liberty police are asking for help in identifying the latest robber.
The report is sketchy, saying only that “one white male subject held employees at gunpoint shortly after 2 a.m. at the Jack in the Box on North Main in Liberty” on Monday.
“The subject appeared to be a white male, early 20s, wearing grey shorts with black stripes down the side. He was also wearing a red fitted shirt, grey tennis shoes with grey and black socks, black hat and a black backpack,” said the report.
No one was hurt, according to reports.
The incidents began shortly after an anti-gun group, Moms Demand Action, put pressure on the company to ban guns.
Jack in the Box announced the new policy with an explanation: “Creating a warm and inviting environment for all of our guests and employees is a top priority for Jack in the Box. The presence of guns inside a restaurant could create an uncomfortable situation for our guests and employees and lead to unintended consequences. While we respect the rights of all our guests, we would prefer that guests not bring their guns inside our restaurants.”
The statement was attributed to Jack in the Box Vice President for Corporate Communications Brian Luscomb.
At the time the third store was hit, the Guns Save Lives blog reported, “It looks like criminals might have been paying attention and realized Jack in the Box restaurants would be easy targets.”
At that time, the northwest Houston store was hit in the middle of the day.
The second robbery was May 21 in Houston, where KHOU-TV reported: “It looks like a male in his early 20s was robbed outside and shot in the arm during the crime, deputies said. He was treated at the scene, and right now, it’s not clear if he was the target or if the suspect was trying to rob the restaurant as well.”
The first robbery was May 13, northeast of Nashville. WKRN-TV there reported: “A man was shot Monday night after he says a man approached him and tried to sell him drugs in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant. The incident reportedly happened outside of Jack in the Box located … not far from West Trinity Lane northeast of Nashville.”
The Guns Save Lives blog said it’s likely the suspected drug dealer wasn’t aware of Jack in Box’s new policy, ‘but it is a little ironic nonetheless.”
