The body of long-time Wayne County Sheriff Carey Winders will lie in state starting Monday at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Also Tuesday, family and friends will gather from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro.
Due to the threat of inclement weather the funeral arrangement time for the service to celebrate the life of Winders has been postponed until Friday,Jan. 31. Visitation will continue as planned.
The family is asking that donations be made to the Union Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
Winders died in his home Friday morning from a massive heart attack. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
He was first elected sheriff in 1994 and was expected to announce plans to run for re-election later this month.
Major Fane Greenfield will serve as interim sheriff.
