U.S. Government is Desperately Attempting to Disarm the American Population While Simultaneously Arming Itself to the Teeth

December 28, 2012

Mike Adams, Natural News, Dec 28, 2012

While the U.S. government is desperately attempting to disarm the American population by rolling out Adolf Hitler-style gun control, it is simultaneously arming itself to the teeth, buying up 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition and now stockpiling it at ammo depot stations around the country.

The hypocrisy of it all is stunning. While screaming, “GUNS ARE BAD!” to American farmers, ranchers and citizens, the government is buying up billions of dollars worth of guns and ammo itself. This isn’t ammo to be used in a foreign theater of war, by the way, it’s ammo that can only be used domestically, against the American people. (The hollow point ammo violates international war treaties and so cannot be used in international war actions.)

To help us all visualize the hypocrisy in the government’s gun control schemes, I came up with our latest Counterthink cartoon:

Cartoon Courtesy of NaturalNews.com / Counterthink.com.

In addition to purchasing 450 million rounds of hollow point .40 caliber ammo, the U.S. government has also purchased:

• Over one million rounds of hollow-point .223 rifle ammo
• Over half a million rounds of non-hollow-point .223 rifle ammo
• 220,000 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun #7 ammo (target ammo)
• Over 200,000 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun #00 buckshot ammo (tactical anti-personnel ammo)
• 66,000 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun slugs (tactical anti-personnel, anti-vehicle rounds)
• Over two million rounds of hollow-point .357 Sig JPH (hollow-point) pistol ammo (anti-personnel)
• Over four million rounds of .40 S&W JPH (hollow-point) pistol ammo (anti-personnel)
• Over 60,000 rounds of .308 match grade anti-personnel sniper rounds (BTHP)
• Plus, hundreds of thousands of additional rounds of .38 special, .45 auto, 9mm, 7.62×39 (AK rifle) ammo, and others.

3 Officers shot in Gloucester Twp., NJ; Suspect Dead

December 28, 2012

By Jason White, NBC News, December 28, 2012

The gunman who shot three officers early Friday at a New Jersey police station is dead, officials said.

The suspected shooter had been brought into Gloucester Township Police station for a domestic incident when he got into a confrontation with officers, reported NBC’s Philadelphia affiliate, NBC 10.

“A violent struggle occurred while the suspect was being processed,” Deputy Chief David Harkins said. The man was able to grab a gun and then opened fire.

One of the injured officers was rushed to surgery after taking two bullets in the leg, and the other two were in the hospital with minor injuries.

The shooter was killed by police during the confrontation, according to Chief W. Harry Earle.

The investigation is ongoing and police will hold their next briefing at 3 p.m. ET.

Gloucester is in central New Jersey, about 15 miles outside Philadelphia.

Firearm Confiscation Plan Announced For America

December 27, 2012

Infowars.com, December 27, 2012

US senators, state governors and others are testing the waters to see if they can sell a national confiscation buy back program under an Obama executive order. This is a way of making all gun owners terrorists. This is the plan, the facts are indisputable. We are in deep shit.

California Democrat Dianne Feinstein will introduce legislation in January calling for the fingerprinting and registering of all gun owners in the United States.

On her Senate web page, Feinstein states her proposed legislation will add fingerprinting and photo identification to the National Firearms Act.

A firearms seller must currently submit Form 4473 to the government containing the name, address, driver license information, NICS background check transaction number, serial number and model of the firearm, and a short federal affidavit stating that the purchaser is eligible to purchase firearms under federal law. Feinstein’s bill will add a substantial layer of bureaucracy to the existing regulations.

The effort to expand firearms registration will include weapons grandfathered prior to the enactment of Feinstein’s proposed legislation. In other words, all gun owners will be required to register their constitutionally guaranteed firearms with a federal government inimical to the Second Amendment.

Feinstein’s registration process will likely surpass New York City’s handgun permit process, which is a bureaucratic nightmare. In addition to non-refundable fees totaling over $500, the permit process demands two recent color photos, a birth certificate, proof of citizenship and residence, a blizzard of affidavits, and other red-tape hurdles. Applications are routinely denied for spurious reasons, including non-violent misdemeanors and depression.

As Dean Weingarten notes, gun registration is de facto gun confiscation. Following mandatory gun registration, the government “will know who has legal possession of each firearm. They will know where the firearm is stored. When physical possession of the gun is desired, they can order you to turn it in. This has happened repeatedly,” most notably in Nazi Germany, Red China and Soviet Russia.

More recently, it has occurred in Kosovo, Great Britain, Australia, New York, and California. If Feinstein has her way next month, it will happen across America.

Democrats and their Republican co-conspirators are going all out to ban firearms. Feinstein’s bill will ban the sale, transfer, importation, and manufacturing of 120 specifically-named firearms, including semiautomatic rifles, handguns, and shotguns that can accept detachable and fixed magazines and have “one military characteristic.”

In addition, Feinstein’s bill will outlaw flash suppressors, bayonet mounts, thumbhole stocks and bullet buttons on firearms.

Make no mistake about it. Obama and his anti-Second Amendment allies in Congress are coming for your guns. If they have their way, the only legal firearms in America will be rifles with 10 round magazines and single shot and bolt-action rifles – and those firearms will be registered with the government and may be confiscated at any moment.

If You Are On This List You May Be In Grave Danger

December 27, 2012

Mac Slavo, SHTFPlan.com, Dec 27, 2012

Over the weekend a mainstream media web site on the east coast published, presumably in the interest of public safety, a complete list of individuals and businesses that are licensed to carry or own handguns.

Much to the amusement of those who would confiscate firearms from law abiding citizens, the list, complete with an interactive map, essentially allows those who are preparing to commit such crimes as burglary, robbery or worse to locate specific addresses where residents are armed.

The problem, of course, is that in their haste to publicly out and embarrass legal gun owners, The Journal News actually did exactly the opposite of the intended purpose of their exclusive breaking report.

You see, now when a criminal gang decides to target a particular home they can utilize the new map to zoom in on specific homes in a neighborhood to determine if they will be faced with any sort of danger should they choose to attack a particular target.

Put yourself into the criminal mind and consider what you might do should you be compelled to rob a home or business at gunpoint. With that new map available to you, would you be headed to the residence where there is a strong likelihood that someone is armed, or would you skip over that particular house and head to where you know there would be little, if any, resistance?

It’s the epitome of irony.

When gun-grabbers and their ilk laugh about the new interactive map publicly exposing lawful gun owners, what they have actually done is outed those citizens who have no means of defending themselves.

It’s pretty safe to say that if one were to have a sign placed in front of their home, Americans would overwhelmingly prefer to have this one:

As opposed to being the neighbor in this photo:

In the near future criminals are going to realize the internet is a powerful tool for determining the feasibility of striking certain targets. It’s only a matter of time before flash mobs begin to organize, not against gas stations or pharmacies, but private citizens and residences. Should such a thing happen, and fifty people kick in your door and intend to have their way with your family and property, those millions of assault rifles that have been flying off the shelves around the country are going to come in real handy.

While we cherish our privacy and agree that the outing of gun owners has gone beyond responsible journalism, if their is going to be a list, we’d rather be on the one that has our residence listed as heavily armed as opposed to the alternative.

You may be one of those proud non-gun owners who didn’t make the east coast list.

And if you are, you should be terrified, because you may very well be in grave danger.

Own a Gun? You’re a Racist!

December 27, 2012

Kurt Nimmo, Infowars.com, December 27, 2012

On Christmas Eve, uber-liberal filmmaker Michael Moore launched a tirade against white people who own firearms.

photoPhoto: David Shankbone.

“Why on earth would we need 300 million guns in our homes?” Moore asked in a post on his website.

The answer? White people who own guns are racist.

“It’s because too many white people are afraid of black people. Period. The vast majority of the guns in the U.S. are sold to white people who live in the suburbs or the country. When we fantasize about being mugged or home invaded, what’s the image of the perpetrator in our heads? Is it the freckled-face kid from down the street – or is it someone who is, if not black, at least poor?”

Moore’s absurd claim is part of the ongoing effort to label all critics of Obama as racist. It also conforms to the belief on the part of most so-called progressives that white America remains mired in racism despite decades of civil rights awareness.

Moore does not bother to back up his claim with facts. 30 percent of black adults own guns, compared to 43 percent of whites, according to statistics published in 2002. More recently, a survey conducted by Gun Owners of America and Gallup revealed that 44 percent of whites and 27 percent of blacks own guns. In rural areas, however, blacks own guns as frequently as whites.

Is it fair to say then that nearly 30 percent of blacks own guns because they hate white people? Of course not. It is fair to say that people regardless of race own guns primarily for self-defense.

Moore should be comforted by the fact that decades of anti-gun propaganda dispensed by the establishment and its corporate media and public school indoctrination have chipped away at gun ownership. A chart posted by the Soros clan shows a marked decline in firearms ownership. The decline is especially obvious among people born after 1980.

Despite this reported decline, gun sales are at an all-time high. CNN’s “Brady Campaign” page contains data released by the FBI shows 1,534,414 inquiries by gun dealers to the NICS, the government’s so-called background check system. The good news is almost half a million checks were done in just the last six days before Christmas. NICS ran 102,222 background checks two days before Christmas, making it the second-busiest day in history. The one-day record was set on Black Friday following Thanksgiving with 129,166 searches.

Moore and the anti-Second Amendment liberals are going to face an uphill battle convincing millions of Americans that they have to give up their firearms because a small number of psychopaths kill children and firefighters.

Support for the Second Amendment remains strong despite the best effort of the gun-grabbers and silly propagandists like Michael Moore who tell us firearms ownership by white people is racist.

“In spite of recent debates over gun control, a strong majority of Americans believe that the constitutional right to own and carry a gun is as important as the right to free speech,” Robert Jones, CEO of PRRI, said in August. “Unsurprisingly, this belief is particularly pervasive among gun owners.”

The downside is that many Americans have bought into the ruse that banning high-capacity ammo clips, so-called assault rifles, and expanding the NICS background check scheme to all gun purchases will stop maniacs from killing people.

Notorious gun-grabber Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat, and her anti-Second Amendment cohorts in Congress feel so emboldened by the confusion of Americans on the firearms issue that they plan to introduce legislation in January banning the sale of all semiautomatic firearms that have detachable magazines and at least one cosmetic military characteristic.

Obama Administration Quietly Let School Security Funds Lapse

December 26, 2012

Before Connecticut Tragedy, Obama Administration Eliminated Emergency Preparedness Program, Let School Violence Prevention Programs Lapse

From http://www.washingtonguardian.com, December 14, 2012 | By John Solomon and Kimberly Dvorak

Beneath the expressions of grief, sorrow and disbelief over the Connecticut school massacre lies an uneasy truth in Washington: over the last few years the Obama administration quietly let federal funding for several key school security programs lapse in the name of budget savings.

Government officials told the Washington Guardian on Friday night that two Justice Department programs that had provided more than $200 million to schools for training, security equipment and police resources over the last decade weren’t renewed in 2011 and 2012, and that a separate program that provided $800 million to put police officers inside the schools was ended a few years earlier.

Meanwhile, the Obama administration also eliminated funding in 2011-12 for a separate Education Department program that gave money to schools to prepare for mass tragedies, the officials said.

A nationally recognized school security expert said those funds had been critical for years in helping schools continue to enhance protections against growing threats of violence. But they simply dried up with little notice as the Columbine and Virginia Tech school shooting tragedies faded from memory and many Americans and political leaders had their attentions diverted to elections, a weak economy and overseas dramas.

“I was baffled to see funds and programs cut in these areas,” said Kenneth Trump, the president of the National School Safety and Security Services firm that helps school districts and policymakers improve protections for teachers and students. “Our political and policy leaders need to walk the walk, not just talk the talk about being concerned about school safety.

“We have roller coaster public awareness, public policy, and public funding when it comes to school safety. The question isn’t whether school safety is a priority today and tomorrow,” Trump added. “The question is whether it will be a priority years down the road when there isn’t a crisis in the headlines.”

Leaders in both parties in Washington on Friday expressed remorse and disbelief in the tragedy in the tiny suburban Connecticut town of Newtown, where a single 20-year-old gunman walked into the school where his mother taught and killed 20 children and six others before turning the gun on himself.

“Our hearts are broken today,” President Barack Obama said, wiping a tear from his eyes as he reacted to the tragedy. “As a country we have been through this too many times.

“These neighborhoods are our neighborhoods, and these children are our children. And we’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics,” the president added.

But last year, his administration took a less muted tone as it submitted its 2012 Education Department budget to Congress that eliminated the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) funding, which for years provided between $20 million and $30 million in annual grants to help schools create emergency and crisis preparation and prevention plans for tragedies just like the one that unfolded Friday.

The Education Department’s Web site says it last made REMS grants in 2011.

The funding was cut off even though the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, warned in 2007 that many “many school district officials said that they experience challenges in planning for emergencies due to a lack of equipment, training for staff, and expertise and some school districts face difficulties in communicating and coordinating with first responders and parents.”

Likewise, the Justice Department over the last 12 years distributed nearly $1 billion in funding to help schools hire police resource officers, install metal detectors and take other countermeasures to prevent tragedies like the Columbine massacre.

The town of Newtown, Conn., in fact, took advantage of one of these programs in 2000 when it got $125,000 in funds from the COPS in Schools program, Justice Department records show.

But Justice Department officials said the key programs that provided money directly to schools in the aftermath of Columbine have been phased out as of 2012, the last after the 2011 budget year.

For instance, the Secure Our Schools (SOS) program provided more than $110 million in funding to law enforcement agencies to partner with schools for the purchase of crime prevention equipment, staff and student training between 2002 and 2011, officials said. It was ended this year.

Likewise, the School Safety Initiative (SSI) provided more than $53 million between 1998 and 2010 in grants to help state and local agencies with delinquency prevention, community planning and development, and school safety resources – all aimed at preventing violence. The program ended in 2011.

Justice Department spokesman Corey Ray said Friday night that the SSI and SOS programs had been funded primarily by congressional earmarks for the last decade and the Obama administration did not seek additional funding to continue the efforts after lawmakers essentially banned most earmarks in 2010.

“They were funded through Congressionally designated funding (earmarks). They ended in 2010 or 2011 when that process of funding ceased,” he said.

The biggest funding program for school violence was the COPS in Schools program, which Ray said provided $811 millions to communities to hire resource officers who worked inside the schools. The targeted funding for schools was ended in 2005 but police are still allowed to apply for broader police hiring money from the general COPS program and then use it to hire school resource officers if they want, Ray said.

“As the economy changed, we had agencies asking for all types of positions including school resource officers,” Ray explained. “So we gave our main hiring program the flexibility to include SROs and other positions. So no COPS In Schools, but still some options to hire for those positions.”

Some liberal groups have increasingly voiced concerns about the increased spending on police and security at schools. For instance, the Justice Policy Institute, a think tank, wrote a report in 2011 entitled “Education Under Arrest” that concluded that “schools do not need school resource officers to be safe.”

White House officials did not return repeated calls and emails Friday night seeking comment on the administration’s rationale for letting the programs lapse.

With funding for K-12 schools and law enforcement agencies evaporating, police and schools have partnered in an effort to ensure safety by creating makeshift programs that target at-risk schools.

San Diego may provide the most sunshine each year, but it’s also home to multiple K-12 school shootings. San Diego Police Department Lt. Andra Brown said funding for many effective programs succumbed to downsizing and cutbacks. Programs like SOS and DARE are “nice to have,” but aren’t necessarily a “need to have.”

The Department has opted to focus on Psychiatric Emergency Response Team or PERT. “The program pairs a health care psychiatrist with a police officer in the field to proactively stop situations from exploding.”

While San Diego Police may be working proactively to prevent psychologically unstable adults from major crime sprees, the Sheriff Department takes a different approach.

“We are not of the mindset this could not happen here; because it has,” said San Diego Sheriff Public Affairs Director Jan Caldwell.  “We work with the school superintendents, principals, staff, and school facility staff members to ensure we have access to the buildings, floor plans and keys to enter when we have to do so.”

Caldwell is also part of San Diego County Crime Stoppers and chair of the Students Speaking Out Committee.  “This sub-program is tailored to campuses and provides students an avenue to report suspicious activity at their school. This sub program has had a total of 331 cases solved since inception.  We’ve removed weapons from campuses, drugs, confronted bullying behavior, solved robberies, burglaries, vandalism, and drug cases.”

However, this program depends on the generous donations from large corporations like Target, Sempra Energy, Walmart and the San Diego Chargers.

Communist Chinese Government Calls For Americans to be Disarmed

December 21, 2012

China can keep its draconian police state, Americans will keep their guns

Paul Joseph Watson, Infowars.com, December 20, 2012

The Communist Chinese government, via its state-run media front Xinhua, has called for Americans to be disarmed, arguing that the Sandy Hook school massacre demands “no delay for U.S. gun control.”

Xinhua is virtually the press agency for the Communist Chinese government. The organization, “is subordinate to the State Council and reports to the Communist Party of China’s Propaganda and Public Information Departments.”

In other words, Xinhua represents the pinnacle of Chinese state-run media. Whatever is printed in its editorial pages represents the opinion of the ruling Communist Party leaders.

The article calls on Obama to exploit the tragedy to push his gun control agenda, adding that his lame duck situation represents “the best position to promote it,” while blaming the National Rifle Association for curtailing previous attempts to regulate firearms in the United States.

Noting that after previous mass shootings efforts to impose gun control measures “disappointingly always fail,” the editorial expresses the desire that the “gunman’s cruelty and evil may provide a strong momentum and broader public support for the restart of gun control efforts.”

The article adds that Barack Obama should begin “to make preparation for a protracted war,” with a massive political cost if he wants to eviscerate the second amendment.

As Brandon Darby points out, “The current Chinese government, the communist People’s Republic of China, was established in a revolution led by Mao Zedong, who killed an estimated 40-70 million people with starvation, executions, and re-education camps.”

Indeed, it was Mao himself who said “political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.”

This should provide a hint as to what happens when tyrants are unleashed upon a disarmed population, and why China’s call to repeal the Second Amendment rings chillingly hollow.

Appearing on the nationally syndicated Alex Jones Show today, former Congressman and NRA board member Bob Barr called for members of Congress to speak out against the Chinese government, expressing his outrage than an authoritarian regime would lecture the United States about the rights of its people.

If you want to get a taste of how a state treats citizens who refuse to submit to big government tyranny yet who are completely disarmed, look no further than China itself.

As we reported earlier this year, a villager in northern China attempting to resist a forced government relocation by remaining on his land was brutally crushed to death by a road flattening truck on the orders of a Chinese government official.

China is routinely rocked by riots staged by residents furious at the arbitrary theft of their land by the state, which under the Communist system claims that the government owns all land and that private property rights are non-existent. However, the state-owned media ensures that news of the protests does not reach a national audience.

Since the state has all the guns, the idea of government thugs arbitrarily kicking people off their own property is a routine occurrence in China. The kind of massive land grabs and forced relocations that occur almost every day in China is not a situation that has yet been visited on America primarily because Americans have the second amendment with which to protect their private property rights.

A law was recently passed in Indiana which legalizes the use of deadly force – including against a police officer – in the event of an unlawful intrusion.

The Pentagon’s recent geopolitical pivot made it clear that China was the primary military threat to the United States. In addition, Chinese military and Communist Party leaders have repeatedly indicated that they are preparing for a future war with the United States. Others have threatened to launch a nuclear attack against America during any potential confrontation over Taiwan.

In this context, it’s noteworthy that Japan’s Admiral Yamamoto refused to invade the United States during world war two because he feared the fact that there “would be a rifle behind every blade of grass,” therefore it’s not surprising that the Communist Chinese regime would also want to see the American people disarmed.

Concerns that China was also interfering in U.S. media were also heard after MGM was forced to delay the re-make of Red Dawn for two years after Chinese state media complained that depicting the invading villains as Chinese “would demonize their state and its citizens.” The bad guys were changed to North Koreans and entire portions of the film had to be revised.

It’s unprecedented to see foreigners like the Communist Chinese and others like Piers Morgan advising Obama on ways to exploit the school shooting in order to disarm the American people.

China can keep its forced relocations, its summary execution of political dissidents, its mobile execution vans, and its draconian police state. Americans will keep their guns, no matter how many times the Communist Chinese government – and all its political allies within America – talk down the second amendment.

Obama Executive Order: Martial Law, Confiscation of Private Property and Forced Labor

December 21, 2012

Kurt Nimmo, Infowars.com, March 19, 2012

On Friday, March 16, Obama issued another unconstitutional executive order. The National Defense Resources Preparedness EO allows the government to confiscate your property without due process under the direction of Janet Napolitano and the Department of Homeland Security.

photoObama Il Duce: Executive order permits government and corporations to steal private property.

Obama’s EO allows the president to “take actions necessary to ensure the availability of adequate resources and production capability, including services and critical technology, for national defense requirements” in the event of a “potential threat to the security of the United States.”

Obama’s latest EO demonstrates once again that the executive will continue to violate the Constitution, in particular Article I, Section 1, which states: “All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.”

Any enactment of law by the executive is made in Excess of Jurisdiction and is by definition treason.

Fascist Executive Orders

Obama’s latest EO underscores and reemphasizes Bill Clinton’s EO 12919, signed on June 6, 1994.

Clinton’s 12919 followed a number of earlier executive orders allowing the government to steal your property – and also force you to be a slave laborer – during a vaguely declared “national emergency.” The government has given itself the authority to seize all communication (from television stations to CB radios), confiscate all food resources (including farms and farm equipment), take control of all transportation (including your family car), and compel you at gunpoint “under federal supervision” to work as a slave.

National Defense Resources Preparedness is a textbook example of fascism. It allows the government to steal privately owned property and publicly owned infrastructure and hand it over to its preferred corporate partners under the guise of a national emergency: “(b)  provide for the modification or expansion of privately owned facilities, including the modification or improvement of production processes, when taking actions under sections 301, 302, or 303 of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2091, 2092, 2093; and  (c)  sell or otherwise transfer equipment owned by the Federal Government and installed under section 303(e) of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2093(e), to the owners of such plants, factories, or other industrial facilities.”

Fascist philosopher and Italian dictator Benito Mussolini used his principle of a “nation in arms” to steal private property from citizens. Obama’s latest EO declares the right to do the same. Mussolini devised fascist corporatism – the philosophy of the “corporative state” – and Obama under the direction of his Goldman Sachs and transnational corporate and bankster controllers has updated this corporate-statist doctrine, including the ability to steal privately earned and held wealth under the pretense of a national emergency.

Martial Law

Previous administrations installed the groundwork for Obama’s authoritarian move. Under Reagan, executive agencies were granted sweeping emergency powers to not only grab infrastructure and private property, but also round up citizens and put them in concentration camps and force them into slave labor brigades.

During the Iran-Contra hearings in 1987, it was revealed that the program was a secretive “scenario and drill” developed by the federal government to suspend the Constitution, declare martial law, assign military commanders to take over state and local governments, and detain large numbers of American citizens determined by the government to be “national security threats.”

Obama’s NDAA was established to provide the legal mechanism for tasking the military to round up activists and others targeted by the government. Prior to the NDAA, the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act and other related programs, the government devised Rex 84 and in particular Operation Garden Plot, an operational plan to use the Army, USAF, Navy, and Marine Corp. in direct support of civil disturbance control operations. It has since added numerous elements under the rubric of Continuity of Government, the overall war on terror, civil disturbance and emergency response.

With the scantily covered National Emergency Centers Establishment Act, the Military Commissions Act, and the recent NDAA sailing through Congress, and a raft of lesser legislation and unconstitutional directives, we are beginning to see the contours of the police state.

Corporate Media Ignores National Defense Resources Preparedness

A Google News search produces virtually no mention of Obama’s latest assault on the Constitution from the establishment media. The alternative media began covering the latest Obama executive order from the moment it was posted on the White House website on Friday, but the corporate media remains silent.

Obama’s EO should be headline news. It is a direct assault on the Constitution and further empowers an executive branch dictatorship and allows it to exploit a “full spectrum of emergencies” and permits it to confiscate private property and turn citizens into slaves.

As John Adams noted, the very basis of the Constitution rests on the concept of private property. “The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God,” Adams wrote, “anarchy and tyranny commence. Property must be secured or liberty cannot exist.”

New York Governor: Gun Confiscation and Forced Buy-back Are Options

December 21, 2012

Kurt Nimmo, Infowars.com, December 21, 2012

New York governor Andrew Cuomo says the state of New York is serious about gun confiscation. The Democrat and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development told an Albany radio station he plans to propose a package of draconian legislation during his Sate of the State address next month.

“I don’t think legitimate sportsmen are going to say, ‘I need an assault weapon to go hunting,’” Cuomo said, according to the New York Times. “There is a balance here — I understand the rights of gun owners; I understand the rights of hunters.”

Cuomo indicated the state will likely force some kind of permit process on owners of semi-automatic “assault weapons.” In addition to generating revenue and expanding the size and reach of government, the effort will allow the state to confiscate the weapons of citizens who do not comply.

Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it,” the governor said.

Cuomo’s confiscation scheme follows remarks by liberal members of the establishment media who demand the government seize firearms from law-abiding citizens. Earlier this week, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz tweeted in favor of gun confiscation.

“We need to get guns and bullets and automatic weapons off the streets,” said CNN’s Don Lemon following the Sandy Hook massacre. “They should only be available to police officers and to hunt al-Qaeda and the Taliban and not hunt elementary school children.”

Anti-Second Amendment advocates have attacked gun ownership from a number of angles. On Thursday, anti-gun zealot and filmmaker Michael Moore said the desire to own firearms and support the Second Amendment is tied to racism.

“I think we’re a very frightened people,” Moore said. “I think we’ve been frightened ever since we landed on these shores. We were frightened of the native people… we were frightened of the slaves we brought over, as we should have been.”

Moore said gun ownership “cuts down to the heart of our race problem that we still haven’t resolved.”

Obama Wrong About America’s Attitutde Toward 2nd Amendment Rights

Gun Sales, NRA Memberships Rise After Connecticut School Shooting

From The New American by Brian Koenig, December 20, 2012

In the wake of the horrific Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, the contentious debate over gun control has been reignited, spurring new policy proposals by lawmakers and mobilizing gun-rights advocates. While the National Rifle Association (NRA) has remained quiet in the aftermath of the shooting, the organization has registered some 8,000 new members per day since the harrowing tragedy.

In addition to an explosion of membership requests, an NRA source told Fox News that individual contributions to the organization have also spiked, according to an internal memo contrived by the group’s membership division. “While this broadly aligns with trends seen after similar incidents in the past, the surge in membership this time is said to dwarf past trends,” Fox reports.

Along with noticeable increases in NRA memberships, firearm sales also have experienced a sharp boost in the wake of last Friday’s massacre, which left 26 people dead, including 20 children between the ages of six and seven. This side effect is reportedly spawned by political debates over tightened regulations on the nearly $32-billion gun industry.

Simultaneously, the “Sandy Hook Effect” has left several gun manufacturers with notable reductions in their shares. Smith & Wesson’s stock plunged eight percent from Friday to Monday, and on Tuesday the stock tumbled an additional 10 percent. Additionally, Sturm Ruger & Company’s shares plummeted by almost eight percent, after losing about nine percent of its value since the shooting.

In states such as Texas, Ohio, Oregon, and Colorado, reports have indicated a significant boost in gun purchases occurring immediately after the shooting, also creating a “national shortage” of weapons and ammunition, according to one Texas gun shop owner. “All of our suppliers are almost sold out of items across the board,” he said, adding that he projects his gun sales to boost anywhere between 200 and 400 percent. “At a minimum we’ll double our sales from last year,” he noted.

According to a representative for Colorado’s Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) InstaCheck Unit, gun background check requests are in a state of “record setting volume,” and that the day following the Connecticut shooting the CBI incurred a single-day total of 4,154 requests — a new record.

Amid the surge in memberships and gun sales, the NRA is preparing for a “major” news conference on Friday, announced in a public statement released Tuesday by an aide to NRA President Wayne LaPierre. In the statement, the group expressed its condolences to the victims’ families and noted its willingness to provide “meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.”

“The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters — and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown,” the statement read. “Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.”

Sources told Fox News that while emphasizing its sympathy for the victims’ friends and family members, the NRA would soon begin to “push back” against gun-control advocates, who have launched a campaign against the NRA’s efforts to safeguard constitutional gun rights. Among those forces leading the campaign for new gun control laws are Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The NRA conference on Friday could change the landscape of the debate, critics predict, arriving days after President Obama announced a new White House task force, led by Vice President Joe Biden, to analyze and propose policies to curb gun violence. Expecting “concrete” proposals on his desk by the New Year, the president indicated that the task force would focus largely on gun-control initiatives.

But despite the campaign by Congress and the Obama administration for new firearm restrictions, the NRA and other gun-rights advocates are unlikely to back down, as industry lobbyists spend millions of dollars to ward off laws that would violate their Second Amendment rights. Adding celebrities such as Chuck Norris and Charlton Heston to its spokesperson roster, the NRA is renowned for effectively mobilizing its four million members.

“The whole fire arms community is very powerful, because gun owners see their relationship to this democracy through the eyes of the gun issue,” affirmed Richard Feldman, a former lobbyist with the group and president of a gun-rights organization called the Independent Firearm Owners Association.

In 2012, the NRA spent $17 million on federal elections, a significant amount when stacked up against the size of the industry, which totals about $3.5 billion annually. In comparison, Goldman Sachs’ employees and political action committee spent $7.5 million on candidates running in this year’s election.

“But Goldman Sachs doesn’t have 4 million members who are very passionate, vocal and well-distributed from coast to coast,” asserted Sheila Krumholz, executive director for the political spending-tracker Center for Responsive Politics. “Certainly money is part of that, but the NRA is one of the most powerful lobbies in Washington, because they can draw on such a huge base.”

All in all, the influential group has been very effective in the past, managing to push laws such as relaxed gun bans in national parks and Amtrak trains in 2009, a year when Democrats dominated both Congress and the White House. And despite the Connecticut tragedy, which critics say would have occurred regardless of stricter gun control laws, the NRA and those supporting the right to keep and bear arms are unlikely to back down.
