Though yelling at a cop at midnight in Texas sounds like a great premise for a country song, it’s not an ideal situation for Randy Travis to find himself in. Alas, on Tuesday at 11:59 p.m., the singer was busted on suspicion of DWI after crashing his car, the Associated Press reports.
The details, however, are decidedly more soap opera than country-croon ready. Tom Vinger, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, told AP that a Pontiac Trans Am registered to Travis, 53, had driven off a road west of Tioga, striking several barricades in a construction zone. “
Travis had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and several signs of intoxication,” reads a statement from the sheriff’s office. “While Travis was being transported, Travis made threats to shoot and kill the troopers working the case.” The out-of-control behavior earned him a “retaliation and obstruction” booking in addition to the DWI he now faces.
Oh, and did we mention that he was naked in the road when police arrived? It’s not his first drunken exchange with police. In February, Travis was arrested in front of a Baptist church for public intoxication. (AP)
