A sex offender from Port Allen, Louisiana has been set free, after serving only half of his sentence, following a castration procedure.
Francis Tullier is now 78-years-old, but was accused of sexually molesting six children back in the 1970s and 1980s. He pled guilty in 1999 to “three counts of molesting a juvenile,” and was not scheduled to be released from prison until 2024. But as part of a plea deal, he agreed to have his testicles surgically removed, which shortened his time in prison by half.
A representative from the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, Maj. Richie Johnson, said, “I hope it would be a deterrent for sex offenders and I hope maybe we could explore this more often in sex offender cases,” according to WAFB.
Although he is probably harmless at this age, it seems like this must be difficult news for the families of the children, who were molested by Francis Tullier. These children are all grown up now, but the memories of being sexually molested will certainly last a lifetime.
But for people, who have never been molested or have never known someone who was a victim of sexual molestation, there is another way of looking at this. If he is not in prison then that is just one less inmate we are supporting with our tax dollars.
